To get better video experience, people usually like to watch movies on big-screen TV. But when you buy a movie from iTunes, you can only access it from Apple devices or non-Apple devices which are authorized by Apple, including iPhone, iPad, Mac, Windows PC (with iTunes installed) and Apple TV. However, not everyone owns an Apple TV. So for the people who don't own a non-Apple TV such as Samsung Smart TV, LG Smart TV and Sony TV etc., a bother problem that comes to them is how to watch iTunes movies on those non-Apple TVs. If you have an Apple TV, things will be easier. You can use Apple TV to get access to your iTunes library. That is to say, you just need to sync the movie files from your iTunes library to Apple TV box and you can view the iTunes movies on your TV. To stream iTunes movies to Apple TV, you can use AirPlay or Home Sharing.
When choosing AirPlay, follow these steps:
1. Connect your computer and Apple TV to the same Wi-Fi network.
2. Open iTunes on your computer.
3. To the right of the volume slider in iTunes, click the button of AirPlay. You'll see this icon only when an AirPlay-enabled device is on the same Wi-Fi network.
4. Click "Apple TV".
When selecting Home Sharing, pay attention to the below process:
1. Open iTunes on your computer, click "File > Home Sharing > Turn on Home Sharing"
2. In Apple TV, go to "Settings > Computers > Turn on Home Sharing".
3. Start playing movies from computer. Your computer library name will shown under the "Computers" on your Apple TV and you can choose a movie to play.
Note: Remember all your devices need to be on the same network or you can't see the shared library. There are some HD rental movies cannot be played on Apple TV neither. Also, If you don't have Apple TV yet, you can turn to the other two ways to watch iTunes movies on TV.
If you had tried to transfer and play iTunes movies on TV, you might found the movies bought or rented from iTunes are not supported. For one thing, iTunes movies are in M4V format, which is not supported by some smart TVs.
